ABOUT GIUSEPPE IMPROTA

“DO NOT

JUST LEARN:

DO!”

EXPERIENCE

I have over 20 years of experience in most of the areas of filmmaking and 3D production, including VR, commercials, stop motion, feature films, animated feature films, and TV episodic productions.

I started as a 3D industrial designer and then moved on to the media production world.
I founded my first company at the age of 19 while attending the Art Academy in Naples (in Italy, where I am originally from).
After working in the industry in my home country for about ten years, I went abroad with the intention of challenging myself with more difficult endeavors. That was almost 16 year ago.

During the years, I have helped other companies build their post-production pipeline and I have worked in various roles. I have progressed from a 3D generalist to specializing in Lighting and Look Development and finally directing.
I am currently the Studio Director of Photography at Bardel Entertainment Inc. in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
I also teach a few classes at KPU University, and I privately mentor a handful of students to help them reach their goals.

I have also worked as a professional freelance photographer and as a cinematographer for various sizes of productions and indie films.
It started as a means to earn extra money but quickly developed into a passion (and then a full-time job) that has never left me and has immensely helped me in my 3D career.

At first, I was involved in commercials, weddings, events, and fashion shoots.
I then transitioned into fine art photography with a focus on wildlife, nature, and automotive subjects.

I have recently started my filmmaking and content creation company: Improductions, where all my skills converge with a great team of people into creating powerful content for many different clients.

TRAVELING AND EXPLORING

“Not traveling is like reading only the first page of a book”

Traveling is a huge passion of mine, though I prefer to drive wherever I go.
I love to drive fast race cars as much as slowly enjoy a beautiful wild landscape in my 4x4.

I have driven the wild unpaved routes of Europe for 10 years.
When I moved to Vancouver I started traveling around the US and Canada in search of animals and landscapes to take pictures of.

I love to explore roads and areas hidden from most people and to spend time in the wilderness.

Over the years, I have built a few expedition vehicles to tackle my adventures: a small Suzuki Samurai, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, two Jeep Wrangler JL, and a couple of Delica L400 4×4 vans.
In the process, I have learned a lot about electrical systems, woodworking, mechanical work, and much more.
Currently, I own a Jeep Gladiator with a trailer that allows me to basecamp in comfort for longer trips and work remotely.

I have come to realize that immersing myself in the wilderness provides an opportunity for me to recharge after a long and usually complicated and stressful production.
The images I shoot during these expeditions become beautiful high-quality fine art prints that people buy online.

Another big passion of mine is racing and motorcycles. I have a racing license and I also like to bring my own vehicles on track battling against the time.
My passion for cars (and vehicles in general) got me to start taking pictures of them to have a printed memory of each of them.
This became a job as well where I take studio photographs of people’s cars (or other vehicles) and make them into high-quality high-tech prints for them to hang on the walls of their mancave, garage, office, or as a present to their friends.

This is a very popular product for people who love their cars and want a genuine and unique memory of their vehicles.

EDUCATION

“EDUCATION

IS THE ONLY THING

NOBODY CAN TAKE AWAY FROM YOU”

All my studies took place in Italy.

In high school, I enrolled in a special Computer Science program where we also learned computer programming.
I could not afford a specialized film school abroad and there wasn’t much at the time in Italy for VFX, so I ended up attending the Fine Art Academy of Naples where I specialized in traditional Painting and Set Dressing.

All my experience in computer graphics, both 2D and 3D is completely self-thought and so are my Photography and Cinematography skills.

I have taken various certifications over the years, like the Adobe Certified Expert in Photoshop and Premiere, and collaborated as a speaker with important well-known brands of the 3D industry, like Newtek and The Foundry.

I have also studied music composition and piano for over 11 years, though I never managed to complete the program.

I like to join classes of all kinds and attend as many workshops as I can, whenever I can take time off from my busy work schedule.
Learning is really what makes life interesting for me and I am always looking forward to learning something new.
